The only way that a cut onion might protect you from a cold or flu, would be if you used it to wash your hands, lacking access to soap and water.Well i heard about this story last year and every year with five kids it went through all of us it was a nightmare with little kids sometimes it hit twice so i tried it last year when my four year old threw up i put onions everywhere no one else got sick this year my mom visited and the flu struck she went home and the baby got it a few hous later put back out the onions baby got better and no one else got sick i believe it works we neber missed the round of the flu hitting all of us until we put onions out onions in socks works wonders every time. When i am with someone with a cold i feel like i'm coming down too i do the onion thing for 2 nights and the cold does not materialize. We would just start to get better when it would hit us again. I put the onions in a bowl, uncut in each childs bedroom and one on the main floor in the great room. The amount of $ you spend on onions year round could have been put to better use; maybe on vitamins or more healthful food. If you don't think it works...don't use it and go be negative in your own room..It has been a little over a month and so far so good. Not wasted by stinking up your whole house and looking weird to visitors. I'll keep my positive attitude, health and onions!!We did go up north and my youngest son(19months) started getting sick that I even took him to the hospital at midnight. Have fun explaining that to your _____ that you bring home...granted that they stay long enough to bother listening. I suggest you climb into a tiger's cage at the zoo to test your theory that a stone would keep them away. Re cooking onions that have been left out, I wouldn't because they will be stale for a start and being exposed to air, light and warmth, most of their vitamins will be gone.My husband and I decided to go back home and sure enough after one day he no longer had any signs or symptoms. There are too many people that only believe in conventional medicine. To the last person who stated the amount of money spent on onions? There's no viruses absorbed by cut onions, but they could release into the air some useful plant chemicals that could neutralize harmful pathogens possibly?
I know there is a widespread belief that households that hung onion halves over their doorways and in their rooms escaped the great plague that ravaged Europe. When she was a child if she had a cold, her mom (my grandmother) would put onions on the bottoms of her feet in her socks. I figure my poor mom must have had a heck of a fever! Onions are full of phosphoric acid..hot white onions have the most.
It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. (And no, she is not in the onion business.)The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. My mother told me once that anything you read, hear or see in the media you should divide by 2 and you are halfway to the truth.
The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case.. Now this onion story hasn't come from the media quoting a politician... But I do believe that unless there is a scientific analysis of whether onions do absorb viruses, or whether onions ward off colds and flu, then the whole caboodle is anybody's belief. Can a virus get into an onion, when really it needs a living host?
So, for chest or head colds/congestion/infections it works like this: If you place onion slices on the soles of your feet, you will very soon taste onions in your mouth as the phosphoric acid absorbs into your blodstream. I have really tried everything and it has gotten expensive! (go figure) I am going to try this onion thing and see if I can get any relief. Not sure how this works, 1 cut in half on two plates in my room and another whole one uncut.
Then it makes its way to your lungs where it exits the body through..guessed it! When this happens, it causes the same reaction as crying when you slice the onions, a helpful irritation that triggers very watery excretions. I have been on 2 antibiotics and it just won't go away. My room stinks, I would be surprised if anything could stay in this room with me tonight!
